When you choose Rustibus you are making a conscious decision to go with quality; quality that will last a lifetime. You are choosing a machine fit for its purpose, designed and made for the Maritime Industry. Made to be used on vessels and in maritime environments; it’s not something from a different industry altogether. It is a marine machine.
If you maintain your Rustibus, use it properly and store it carefully, your Rustibus will have no trouble following the lifetime of your vessel and when your vessel gets too old, you can transfer your Rustibus over to a newer vessel.
There is a difference between grit blasting and Rustibus. Rustibus will not create same rugged, angular profile (microns/mils) as grit. Rustibus is mechanical de-scaling with a surface cleanliness result of ST3+/SSPC-SP11+ . But because implicit definitions of "roughness" and profile form vary between methods, numerical profiles determined using different techniques (replica tape, interferometer, confocal microscope, analogue stylus, digital stylus) may yield different values. Always specify the technique used.
Most of our customers who used to grit blast now only use Rustibus, being sufficient for most purposes. However, should a ‘Blasted’ profile or for example SA3 blast class be needed, one will need to grit blast after the use of Rustibus to get that specific final result. By combining Rustibus with grit/sand blasting one will normally save 80-85% grit/sand being a huge cost saving and more environmentally friendly.
It must also be remembered that while good surface profile is important to increase surface area and provide a good anchor pattern for coatings to lock on to; it can be just as disastrous to have excessive profile height, causing premature rusting and coating failures. Bear in mind that more profile means more paint to cover the surface.
There are two important rules of thumb when it comes to profile.
1. The profile height shouldn’t exceed the primer coat dry film thickness (DFT)
2. The profile height should not be greater than 1/3 the total coating system DFT
The chain drums are a consumable item, with use it will wear down. With normal and correct use, you can wear the drum down until only two links remain. With the second /middle link is worn through, your drum should be replaced.
How long they will last has a lot to do with how it’s being used and the surface conditions on which it is being used.
You’ll get the most out of your drum, by not using excessive pressure, avoiding running the machine over sharp edges and deck fittings e.t.c. Look after your machine and it will look after you.
In short, yes. Rustibus has stock points all over the world; we’re always open somewhere and wherever your vessel is calling we are close by and can reach you.
If you invest in a Rustibus, you get first class service and having what you need, when you need it and where you need it is part of that.
